Foreword

We are pleased to present to the readers, the second edition of the first English volume of Tafsīr al-Mīzān. The first edition was published by World Organization for Islamic Services (WOFIS) in 1983. We hope to subsequently follow this, God willing, with the second edition of the remaining twelve English volumes. The first twelve English volumes were translated by the late ʿAllāmah Sayyid Saʿīd Akhtār Rizvī, may God elevate the status of his soul.

The second edition incorporates the new format which first appeared in English volume 26, published by our organization. We have also made an attempt to fix some typographical errors including editing the original translation where necessary.

This volume corresponds to the first half of the first volume of the Arabic text and covers the complete exegesis of the first chapter of the Qur’an, “The Opening of the Book” and verses 1-93 of the second chapter, “The Cow.”

Finally, we would like to remind the readers that all the published English volumes (by WOFIS and Tawheed Institute) are also available in electronic format at www.almizan.org.
